bloggingAs a small business owner a great way to get noticed and rank for difficult keywords is a blog.  All small businesses are trying to leverage their brand and get noticed.  With all the competition and each website being optimized, it is very easy to be pushed off page 1 of the search engines and not be seen by potential customers.

A blog is created with the intent to start a conversation and draw in new readers.  Through blogging you set out to engage within the community, get noticed by readers as well as other bloggers by leaving comments and also get links back to your blog. However, determining where your blog will fit in is important as what are you providing that no-one else is, why is your blog more valuable than the millions of others out there?

7 Blogging Techniques

1. Determine Niche: This, at first, is a bit of trial and error to see what readers are looking for from you.  Are they looking for analogies, satire, information or education?  Analyzing your blog traffic to see what is being read most and create your blog niche. Catering to the wants of the reader will go a long way.

2. Link Blog to Relevant Pages on Website.  We know that search engnes pay high attentin to linked text and this is a great way to increase traffic to the website.  If you are blogging about small business branding, link to the page on the website that provides information on how you can help with small business branding.

3. Research and Utilize Longtail Keywords.  A blog is one of the best ways to rank for longtail keywords.  The key is to be sure that the difficulty for the keyword phrase is low and that it favors your the main keyword that you are ultimately trying to rank for.

4. Research Content for Similar Posts.  Gain inbound links. Seeking out similar content for keywords that are already ranking and link to them as a resource. This will provide an inbound link, help to increase rankings and drive people to the site.

5. Keyword Targeted Headlines.  Each blog is a new page to your website and will be treated as such when indexed.  Be careful not to create too many blogs targeting the same exact keywords.  Here is where longtail keywords play a role as you are targeting a main keyword and adding to it.   Advertising Agency. Advertising Agency in Las Vegas. Advertising Agency Las Vegas, Advertising Agency Contact form.  See where the main keyword is Advertising Agency which is extremely difficult to rank for so variations making it a longtail keyword will have a better chance for ranking on page 1 and getting search engines to get to know you and come back as you are important.

6. Great Content.  The better targeted the headline and the better the content, the more readers.  More readers increases traffic and return visits.  The more people reading the blog will reflect in your traffic and rank you higher on the search engines.

7. Frequent Posts. The more posts, the more pages, more pages is more pages and keywords to rank. The pressure to blog everyday or everyother day and have the best article with the most amount of readers can be overwhelming. Develop a schedule that works for you and fits your business.

Blogs do increase search engine rankings for specific keywords. Keep in mind while it is inviting to want to have as many keywords in the title, only 70 characters are shown in the search. Be precise and to the point to be able to attract the most readers and give them what they are looking for from you.
